Introduction to Cyclocross
Winter is well and truly here, and the weather is unlikely to improve anytime soon.
But the good news is we’re right in the middle of ‘cross season and we have some new and exciting events to announce!
Firstly, what is "cross”?! If that’s the question on your lips go check out our blog post!
Now you’ve read that and are as hyped as we are, let’s dive into what we have planned!
Scottish Cycling have provided funding to Hervelo to put on four Women’s Introduction to Cyclcocross sessions in January and February 2026.
The aim of these sessions is to get you “race ready” with the skills and confidence needed to take part in the Superquaich Cyclocross series. The perfect races for those new or returning to the sport!
Your wonderful coaches will be the newly qualified Jodie, Lauren and Lizelle. Each bringing their own experiences to the sessions.
The sessions will all be 2 hours long at different locations around the Lothians & Fife. (All with toilet access).
They will be run as a progression and we will focus on a different cyclocross specific skill at each session.
We’d encourage you to sign up for the full block. However, we understand that life can sometimes get in the way of bike riding so don’t worry if you can only attend some of the sessions!
Importantly, these sessions are completely free!
Session 1: West Lothian Cycle Circuit
17th January 10am
The perfect opportunity to check out the course ahead of Superquaich Round 1.
There are no “big” features at Linlithgow CX, but there are lots and lots of corners.
It makes sense that this will be our main focus for our first session!
Session 2: Inch Park
31st January 10am
Inch Park is an classic early season fixture in the Scottish Cross calendar.
We’ll be practicing and perfecting mounts and dismounts.
Session 3: Whitekirk Hill
7th February 11am
Very few cyclocross races are completely flat so we’ll be working on the different techniques to get both up and down hills.
Session 4: Fife Cycle Circuit
14th February 10am
Fife Cycle Park is a brand new cyclocross location with permanent features including a sand pit and stairs!
We’ll be making the most of these feautres to work on our running up stairs and sand riding.
It will also be host to Round 2 of the Superquaich series so where better for us to conclude our coaching series?!
A little carousel of what not to do..!
