Nomination for Club of the Year

We had a great time at the Scottish Cycling Awards dinner after being nominated for the Club of the Year award. We didn’t win, but are super proud to have been nominated. We’ve shared the nomination below as it gives a great snippet of what our club is about and celebrates all the amazing things our members have been up to this year.

Hervelos looking a bit different to normal all glammed up

“Hervelo has grown to over 80 female members in the past year, a boast few Scottish clubs can match. For a small club, our rides have a wide range: sending it at the Golfie, road rides, XC epics in the wilds, CX training sessions, and chilled coffee spins - even trips abroad and gatherings that don’t involve bikes at all. We ran a hugely successful club weekend away to Aberfeldy, with over 30% of members attending.

Our (no-drop) rides are led by enthusiastic members who act as peer role models, helping others build confidence and skills. To support safe, fun riding, we’ve part-funded three trail leader qualifications, bringing our total to five.

We encourage members to try racing, offering support and shared experiences. This year, six members tried Crit racing for the first time, and expect similar numbers to have their first go at CX. Some have even dipped their toes in the crazy world of MTB endurance racing. We’ve celebrated our first Scottish champ jersey at the Gravel Champs plus podiums across Gralba, TCIF, SXC, TTs and more.

Our impact extends beyond the club; Hervelo members are race organisers, volunteers, leaders for other communities and visible examples others can look up to. We hosted our first TCIF league race with a nearly all-female volunteer team, and have members who sit on the TCIF committee, ensuring women’s voices are heard. We support local cycling through six Breeze leaders and five members running Edinburgh School of Rocks, introducing women to off-road riding.

At all events, we aim for a warm, supportive presence, making sure we chat to newcomers, cheer on our team members and rivals around the course! Online, we celebrate it all: wins, mishaps, and big smiles to help make cycling as a hobby or sport accessible for women.”
