Our Fave Rides of 2025
We had some brill rides in 2025, either will the club or off on a solo adventure. We asked some of our members to tell us about their fave rides of 2025.

In August we set off from Pitlochry for what turned into a stunning road ride - past shimmering Loch Tummel and on round Loch Rannoch in the sunshine. Quiet roads, big views, and great company made for a wonderful day out (even with a couple of mechanicals and lack of cafe stop!).

My fave cycle of the year was a Hervelo one when we did Rapha 100km but got a bit lost, found a new cycle path no one had been on. Had to go extra miles (down and uphill back) to discover a new cafe. Worth it for the bike parking spot!

My two favourite rides this year were both in the Lammermuirs on glorious summers days that included flagging down a random Ice cream van. Dipping in reservoirs to cool down in 30-43°C with the most inspiring bunch of women.

An awesome sunset ride back in April just as the nights started getting shorter and you could finally feel summer was on its way.

My favourite ride of 2025 was the Cormet Loop in the French Alps. I’d ridden the climb before from both sides but never completed the full circuit. I set off from Aime planning to return the same way, but the ride was so good I decided to continue on to Albertville and complete the loop. The scenery was stunning, with a welcome coffee at the top and Beaufort pie on the descent. In total it was 6 hours riding , 116 km with 1,935 m of climbing — an unplanned day that turned into the ride of the year.

I have only joined Hervelo really recently. I have been predominantly a road cyclist for decades. But cycling across the vast moonlike landscapes of Namibia in 2025 on gravel roads - some superb / some truly awful - made me realise that I love gravel riding once I get over my nerves 😬. Hence why I thought I would sign up to Hervelo and improve my gravel riding skills. If you want to go remote then gravel is certainly the way to do it….

My favourite ride of the year has to be navigating the single track along the East Lothian coast. It was perfectly peaceful, the sea birds were calling and the sunset gave us a very good show. We traversed some woodland sections on the ride too, and had the pleasure of watching some deer in the fields. It was a very memorable ride for me and as good as they come!

The Fred whitton is one of the UKs hardest sportives covering most of the Lakeland passes in a day, Something I’d always wanted to do but wasn’t sure if I’d manage. On a sunny day in May I set off with thousands of others to take on this challenge but stuck to my plan and kept moving with minimal stops. I paced myself on the climbs and thoroughly enjoyed the descents. It was a buzz to see friends at one of the water stations having them fill up my water in the sunshine. But hard knott pass was still to come so I didn’t hang about. This climb was brutal after 80miles and I did end up walking sections but cycling past the cameraman.
After summiting Wyrnose pass I had one final climb before the final push to the finish. Here I seem to find a second wind and worked with another guy on the flats. It’s amazing how you can keep pushing when the end is in sight. It was a fantastic challenge and I highly recommend it as the event is supportive and encouraging but a huge challenge
Thanks to everyone who shared their fave rides with us. And just incase this all feels a bit overwhelming - don’t worry cos my fave ride of 2025 was 7 minutes in heaven (first ride on the turbo post fracture)
Excited for all 2026 has to bring.
